Star Spangled Banner – Let Your Freedom Ring

by Lisa Molina

Our King quit ruling our country.  And our king wanted to be another country’s king.  That is why our country is not ruled anymore.  And our country is now Free.

Skye Molina – July 3rd, 2010  (age 5)

Today Skye told me the story above and wanted me to act out a scene with him for Bob (Dad).  He had me tape the flag he got from the hardware store up on his bookshelf.   He had me be England and he was American.  We fought in a pretend battle (with swords) where he took me down and conquered me, and Skye then stood under the American flag.

Then he requested I write down all the words of the Star Spangled Banner, as he said them to me.

“I know what perilous means!  It means dangerous!”

Bob and I sat in a bit of amazement as Skye drew us a picture  of ramparts…when we asked him, what does “ramparts” mean.  (we had to look it up!)

What a beautiful reminder of what freedom means.

Just the night before at bedtime, Skye asked us what if he doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life.  Bob reassured him with, you have a lot of years to know.  I felt a bit more inquisitive as to why he was asking the question.  I asked him what he meant, and he kept asking me questions like, “do people get to do what they want to do?”  I let him know, he really does get to choose what he wants to do with his life, and although some people will act as if they don’t have a choice, the beautiful thing is, they do.  ”and so do you.”  He was satisfied with that, and drifted off to a peaceful sleep.

Recognizing now, why he was asking me the question,  It always amazes me how he sees so much.  Today he served as an amazing reminder to what the 4th of July represents.

This weekend is symbolic to celebrating Freedom that the US of A is free, and without a king to rule over us.

Although his inquiry to me last night posed an important question…… are we Really Free?

To me Freedom starts from within.  (Easy for me to say, now, that others have been willing to fight the  battle to keep my country free!)  In your world, do you have a ruler or is your mental space (aka: country) free?   For so many, freedom is quite the elusive word, yet it seems to be what everyone is, still today, going for.

I do know that in order to have our own freedoms, we must be able to clearly define what that means.

How would you define your  Freedom?

I love this, Lisa. Children have a way of reducing the most complicated questions to something really simple! We all need to look at life through their eyes now and then to remind us of what is important and what is not.

Thanks Kathy, I agree and I trust I will always choose in to the ability to see through their eyes! Best, Lisa

    Hi Lisa
I guess I have found out another reason why you are so up on the calls. Heard you talk about your beautiful son he is really cute. Very impressed with the clip.
Hats of to Americans I love your patriotism and love of country and freedom that you inspire into your kids it is so inspirational.
Us Aussies are dragging our feet in these stakes. I love the message that you have given to Skye, it certainly will stand him well in his journey through life. I wished I had given this same message to my kids. I loved the message that you shared with Skye about having choices, the beautiful thing at Skyes age he has no fear unlike when we grow up and are often paralised by fear or thoughts of failure. The tradition and meaning of the 4th of July and Thanks giving are great American traditions to be proud of.
This is a great story thanks for sharing.

Stan, So great to hear from you. I appreciated your comments and funny, because being at a conference with a room full of Aussies, I can definitely feel the strength of the group! Might have something to do with AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE – Oi Oi Oi!! I would agree that our kids today can be equipped with the tools for no fear and no limits.. although, i also believe these tools to them are like knives and forks are to us. They will require these tools to survive. I feel blessed that I get an opportunity to not only share with Skye, but for him to share with me the perspective of his innocence. Allows me to live my life like an adventure. Can’t wait to meet you Stan! perhaps in Sydney in August!

Hi Lisa. Freedom hey! Well by my definition I probably can’t write about it, I can’t talk about it and I can’t show anyone how to achieve it. The freedom that I know of is only for me, the freedom that I offer others might not be noticed, or misinterpreted. To lose the relationship with time, to live here and now but somewhere else as well, to understand that less is more. Freedom is my right, more so it is the ground in which all limiting and confining beliefs are nurtured. It is in own perfection that we so ruthlessly script against our nature. Because of our innate, natural freedom of mind and being we choose moment by moment to believe it again and blame, or to recognize that in the very next breath it has gone. On the inside if there were such a place there is freedom but because we reside firstly in our mind with our thoughts, then the freedom surrounds us and it is us. A couple of thoughts and images cannot fill this void offered by freedom, without training and skill the clear nature will startle and cause past thoughts and habits into being for this is the ground, the space of creation! We are freedom.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts Andy!
You had many great insights. Some I missed the first read thru. I love the line – to lose the relationship with time… just today I was in a situation that I felt time go by very fast, and then as I was more and more present, time was going slow. I realized that time is simply a made up agreement. Someone created time for us. And the way we know time today is by having things. So to give up the relationship to time, once would have to let go of things in their lives. I definitely know when I give a bunch of things..i lighter and MORE FREE!
Deep and profound thoughts Andy! Thank you. Best, Lisa

Yoshimi, I know very well what you mean by my situation are not completely free. It took me much discipline to learn, I AM NOT my circumstances.. I HAVE circumstances, but I am not them. they are not me. For me, this was hardest to get as it related to money. For some reason i kept creating opportunity after opportunity so I would get more and more chances to practice and to really KNOW that each situation that happens is something I choose to happen to learn what I am supposed to and to get what I need so that I can have what I desire. As I learned this, it became more apparent that i was in control of all of my results, good and bad. This in turn gave me the power to choose into only good results. Freedom does start from Within and I realized feeling the gratitude of freedom INSIDE, allowed it to begin occurring OUTSIDE! xoLisa

    Hi Lisa,
I so enjoyed this blog post! “From the mouths of babes comes truth”
Freedom is a state of mind to me. No matter what is going on around me, weather I agree or disagree does not matter. I do not get caught up in talking heads and people’s take on this subject.
In my own mind I am free. What people have to understand that with freedom comes responsibility. I have always worked for myself to be “free.” People look at me and often say that I am so lucky not to do the 9 to 5 job. What they don’t understand is that it is more work to be Free!
I am willing to put my heart and soul and many long hours into my business. I fight the good fight and stay on the positive side. Why? Because I have chosen to do so. Why?
    Because I am free!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful post. You have a very gifted child Lisa. Are you giving him seminars? tee hee

      Donna,
What a great point you bring up, “with freedom comes responsibility”. Being success is a choice, I will choose that responsibility over and over again so I can enjoy my freedom and success.
Thank you for your kind words about Skye. I think it’s time he has his own blog! lol. I have been jotting down the things he says to me since he could talk. Profound. He is my favorite teacher!
Love that you stopped by my Blog Donna!

    Hi Lisa,
It sounds like you are having a history class before Skye even has to take one. For an inquiring mind to want to know what it all means and how it all works at such an early age is pretty amazing. I know that the influence Skye has of being raised in your household that he will fully understand what freedom means and that because of it he can choose whatever he wants in the future.

Don, One of my favorite things to do is to listen to Skye tell me about the things he knows. I am so willing to learn history from him! (as opposed to my 5th grade History teacher! Lol)
Thanks for you accolades about Skye and how he is raised. Skye tells us the reasons he picked us for parents! and I let him know the reasons I chose him to be my son.. (some of which are yet to be revealed.)
i told him I shared this on my Blog and he said.. “Oh, like I taught it to you and now you taught it to other people. good job Mom!” I know I am a gushing parent… ;) Thanks for being my friend Don!

    Lisa,
Thanks for the great reminder about our freedom. Your son has brought up alot of great questions to contemplate. We do have freedom of choice. We can do what we desire. We do have the power to achieve our dreams. All we need is faith, desire and confidence in ourselves.

Sounds like you’re giving your son space to grow into the person he wants to become. Awesome!

Are We Really Free? Skye may be wondering what perilous things await his adulthood, and what challenges to his freedom he might have to stand up to.

Ding Dong the King is Dead!

Or so it seems. But as someone quite perceptive once quipped “The Owls Are Not What They Seem”.

So Skye will have to do what all generations of Americans have. Be on guard for perilous nights when our freedoms could be stolen while we sleep.

I would like to encourage Skye: Move forward no matter what direction others are going in. Take the actions required to maintain your freedom because freedom does not come easily, but is easily abandoned to idleness and complacency. Be vigilant always.

And don’t do what you mother says, do what she does. Because I believe that only your example, Lisa, is what will ensure his freedom.

    Thanks for this great post.

David, The line you wrote…”And don’t do what you mother says, do what she does. Because I believe that only your example, Lisa, is what will ensure his freedom.” STILL has my heart singing. I have read it over and over and I just want to shout out YES!!! You are a man David, that absolutely gets it! I LOVE THAT Line! xxo Lisa

Hi Lisa, this story is great and Skye is very blessed to have such great role models of this concept – choosing our own direction in life and making it happen – as parents. This is a great history lesson for me also as an Ozzy! Thanks and much love, Liana

Which is worse; to live in a country where there is no choice or to live in a free country and no exercise that choice?

Great question Howard! Being grateful for having the freedom in our country to make choices, to me is only demonstrated by exercising that choice. Otherwise, we might as well go sit in a cave. Love being able to assist others in gaining complete individual sovereignty and in doing so, exercising the right to be Free!
